What to do now
Keep people and pets away. Do not disturb, burn, flood or block a suspected active nest. If someone has trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, or collapses after a sting, call 000 immediately.
Describe the location without approaching
| Visible situation | Tell the operator |
|---|---|
| Nest or repeated traffic near an entrance | Which route is affected and whether people can avoid it safely. |
| Traffic into a wall or roof gap | The entry point seen from a safe distance; a hidden nest may require different access and building work. |
| Traffic at ground level | Where it is relative to paths or play areas. Keep people and pets away rather than probing the hole. |
| Insects visiting food, but no nest seen | Say the nest has not been located. Ask whether identification and a search are included. |
Wasps, bees and different nest types need identification. A photo is optional: your safety matters more than obtaining a close-up. Victorian health guidance distinguishes European wasps from native wasps and honey bees.
Treatment is not always physical nest removal
Before agreeing a price, ask whether it covers treatment, removal of an accessible nest, repeat attendance and any access equipment. For activity inside a wall or roof, ask who authorises opening the building and who pays for making it good.
- When can the affected area be used again?
- What activity should you expect after treatment, and when should you call back?
- Does the quote cover one nest or every nest identified?
- Is there a different charge if the insects are bees or the nest cannot be reached?
Do not assume a quoted treatment time means it is safe to approach. Follow the attending professional’s re-entry instructions.
What could explain it?
- Active wasp nest in an eave or void
- Ground nest
- Foraging wasps from a nearby nest
- Bees mistaken for wasps
These are possibilities to discuss with the professional, not a confirmed cause.
When to prioritise help
Restrict access when the nest is near regularly used areas, especially if someone has a known sting allergy. Severe symptoms after a sting are a medical emergency, separate from nest removal. Follow emergency-service instructions.
What the professional may do next
- Keep the area clear
- Arrange identification from a safe distance
- Agree access and treatment with a professional
- Follow re-entry and follow-up instructions
Australian cost guidance
Prices checked 1 November 2026. All figures are AUD. These are attributed published examples, not Home Triage quotes or independently verified market averages. Region, access, scope and GST treatment matter. No supplier is endorsed.
Sydney and Perth provider example
Xpress Pest Control publishes $120–$380 including GST for wasp nest removal in its Sydney and Perth price guide. This is one provider’s indication, not a national range. Confirm access, number of nests, physical removal and repeat attendance; concealed nests may need a different scope.

Do not select by price before safety
Tell the operator if the nest blocks normal entry or affects people with a known allergy. Avoid attempting a hazardous treatment while waiting for a cheaper appointment.
Before booking
- Check the pest technician’s pesticide authorisation and experience with the identified nest location; agree access and exclusion arrangements.
- Ask what inspection, parts, labour, GST and follow-up visits are included.
- Get exclusions and approval of extra work in writing.
